Search Your Own House
"Search me, O God, and know my heart… and see if there is any wicked way in me." — Psalm 139:23–24
The Practical Lesson
This lesson is not primarily teaching. It is an assignment. Set aside enough time to do it properly — an evening at minimum, a full day if your home has been accumulating for decades.
You are going to search your house.
Not tidy it. Search it, the way Israel searched the camp when they knew something was hidden there.
How to Prepare
Pray first. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and to show you what your natural eye will not catch. Ask for protection over your household while you do this.
Do it with your spouse or a believing friend. Two people notice more than one, and agreement matters.
Bring a notebook. Write down anything questionable rather than making instant decisions in the moment. Rushed decisions produce regret in both directions.
Do not do this in fear. You are not hunting for something that will hurt you. You are the owner of this house walking your own property with the authority of Jesus Christ.
Where to Look
The obvious places: shelves, walls, mantels, display cabinets.
The forgotten places: attic, basement, garage, storage unit, the boxes you have not opened since the last move, the back of closets, the drawer nobody uses.
Jewelry boxes. Symbols on jewelry are frequently occult in origin and worn purely as fashion. Look at every pendant, ring, and charm.
Books and media. Occult books, divination manuals, ritual texts, tarot and oracle decks, spiritist literature, and anything acquired during a season you have since renounced.
Games and toys. Divination boards, occult-themed games, and toys explicitly connected to spiritism or sorcery.
Music and film collections, particularly anything with explicitly occult content or dedications.
Clothing. Band merchandise with occult symbols, imported garments with religious inscriptions, anything bearing a symbol you have never identified.
Gifts. Anything given to you by someone involved in the occult, in another religion, or in a relationship marked by control.
Inherited items. Everything covered in the earlier lesson on family objects.
Art and antiques of unknown origin.
What to Do With What You Find
Sort what you find into three groups.
Destroy anything made specifically for use in false worship or occult practice. Burn it if you can, break it if you cannot. Do not sell it. Do not donate it. Do not pass the problem to someone else.
Cleanse and keep ordinary items that are merely associated with something — anoint them with oil, ask God to cleanse them, and command anything attached to leave in Jesus' name.
Investigate what you are unsure about. Research the symbol. Ask the Lord. Wait for clarity rather than guessing.
Point to Ponder
Israel could not stand before its enemies until the camp was searched. Neither can you.
Verse to Remember
"Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all… So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed." — Acts 19:19–20
Question to Consider
What have I been avoiding opening?
Today's Practice
Do the search. Today, if possible.
Begin with prayer, walk every room, open every box, and write down everything questionable.
Then destroy what clearly must go — do not wait for a more convenient day. As you dispose of each item, say aloud: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I break every curse attached to this object, and I command every spirit associated with it to leave my home and my family now and never return."
When you are finished, walk through every room and anoint the doorposts with oil, dedicating your home to the Lord.
Prayer
Father, I am searching my own camp today. Go with me.
Show me what I would walk past. Slow me down where I am moving too fast, and stop me where something needs a second look. Give my spouse and me one mind about what we find.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I break every curse attached to anything in this house, and I command every spirit that has had any right to be here to leave now and never return.
Lord, I dedicate this home to You — every room, every possession, everyone who lives here and everyone who visits. Let it be a place where Your presence is welcome and nothing else has a foothold.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
They burned the books in public and the word of the Lord grew mightily. That order is not accidental.
