Never Send a Curse Back
"Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you." — Luke 6:28
A Teaching That Must Be Corrected
There is a teaching circulating in some Christian circles that must be named as wrong.
It holds that when you become aware a curse has been sent against you, you should send it back onto the sender — and, in some versions, double it first. All in the name of Jesus, of course.
This is not merely unwise. It is absolutely wrong, and it contradicts the plain words of Christ.
What Jesus Actually Said
"But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you." (Luke 6:27–28)
That is not ambiguous. The response to being cursed is to bless.
Paul repeats it: "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse" (Romans 12:14). Peter repeats it: "not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing" (1 Peter 3:9).
Three apostolic voices. One instruction.
Think About What You Would Be Doing
Beyond the direct command, consider the mechanics.
What did we establish that curses consist of? Spirits.
So if you send a curse back onto the sender, you are dispatching spirits onto a human being.
That is witchcraft. It does not stop being witchcraft because you attached the name of Jesus to it. And if you double it before returning it, you are sending twice as many spirits onto a person as were sent at you.
Believers are not to send spirits onto anyone. Ever. Under any provocation.
The person who cursed you is not your real enemy anyway. "We do not wrestle against flesh and blood" (Ephesians 6:12). They are a captive being used, and captives are to be prayed for, not attacked.
What to Do Instead
Break the curse. Take authority in the name of Jesus Christ and command it broken. That is entirely legitimate and entirely different from returning it.
Command the spirits to leave you. Dismiss them from your life. Where they go is not your concern and not your business to direct.
Ask the Lord for shielding against further attack.
Forgive the person, out loud, by name if you know it.
Then bless them. Genuinely. Pray for their salvation. Ask God to bring them to Himself.
That last step is the hardest and the most powerful. Nothing so thoroughly ends a spiritual attack as the target praying sincerely for the attacker's redemption.
Point to Ponder
Attaching the name of Jesus to witchcraft does not make it something else.
Verse to Remember
"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse." — Romans 12:14
Question to Consider
Is there someone I have wanted God to punish rather than save?
Today's Practice
If you have ever prayed for harm to come to someone — including in the language of spiritual warfare — confess it as sin today. Be specific.
Then identify anyone you believe has come against you spiritually, or simply anyone who has genuinely wronged you.
For each person, do three things out loud:
Break what was sent: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I break every curse sent against me and my household by ______. I command every spirit associated with it to leave me now."
Forgive: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I forgive ______ completely. I release them. I hold nothing against them."
Bless: "Father, I ask You to bless ______. Have mercy on them. Open their eyes. Bring them to Yourself. Save them."
Mean the third one, even if you have to say it several times before you do.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You were cursed, mocked, beaten, and crucified — and from the cross You asked the Father to forgive them.
I confess that I have wanted vengeance. I have wanted people who hurt me to suffer for it. Forgive me.
I break every curse sent against me and my household in Your name, and I command every spirit associated with it to leave. But I send nothing back. I will not put spirits onto any person made in Your image.
I forgive those who have come against me. I release them entirely.
And Father, I ask You to bless them. Have mercy on them. Save them. Let them meet You as I have met You.
Give me a heart like Yours, Lord Jesus. Amen.
Break it, dismiss it, forgive, and bless. Never return it.
