The Thief Comes Only to Steal
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." — John 10:10
One Verse, Two Lives
You have seen this verse before in these lessons. Now look at it with everything you have learned since.
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
The thief is a spirit of discipline — the jailer of the parable, the tormentor, the one with a legal right.
Steal, kill, and destroy describes the pain and suffering it brings into a life. Health stolen. Relationships killed. Years destroyed.
And the word only. That is its entire function. There is no secondary agenda, no other purpose. It does one thing.
Where the Thief Gets Permission
Here is the point that matters most, and it is the correction to almost everything you have been taught about spiritual warfare.
God does not send the thief. As Chapter after chapter of this material has shown — the parking lot, the parable, the courtroom — God does not dispatch spirits of discipline to cause pain in your life.
Your sin gives the thief a legal right to do it on its own.
Remember the parking lot. The owner never sent the tow truck. He posted a sign and made an agreement. The driver came because someone parked where they had no right to be.
That is exactly the mechanism. God does not send suffering into your life. But because of the spiritual laws He established, whenever you sin you create a legal right that invites spirits of discipline to bring the suffering to you.
The Only Way Out
This produces a conclusion that will reorganize how you fight.
The only way to get the abundant life Jesus described is to repent of the sins that give the thief a legal right to steal, kill, and destroy.
Once you do, the legal right is removed. And when the legal right is removed, the torment stops.
Not because you fought harder. Not because you achieved a higher level of faith. Because the authorization expired.
There is something almost strange in this. Unholy spirits do not want to serve God. They oppose Him entirely. And yet by doing the only thing they know how to do — bringing pressure and pain — they drive people to repentance, which conforms them to His image.
By doing exactly what they love, they accomplish exactly what He wants.
They cannot avoid serving Him even in their rebellion.
Point to Ponder
God does not send the thief. Sin hands him the key, and he lets himself in.
Verse to Remember
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." — John 10:10
Question to Consider
What exactly has been stolen from me — and have I been fighting the thief instead of removing his authorization?
Today's Practice
Make a theft inventory.
Stolen — what has been taken from you? Health, years, money, sleep, peace, confidence, opportunities.
Killed — what has died? Relationships, a marriage, a business, a calling, a version of yourself.
Destroyed — what has been wrecked beyond ordinary repair? Reputation, trust, a family, a body.
Take real time with this. It will be uncomfortable and it should be. Most people have never totaled it up, and the total is usually larger than they expected.
Now, at the bottom of the page, write the operative sentence:
"None of this was sent by God. Something had a legal right, and I am going to find it and remove it."
That sentence is the difference between a victim and someone about to be free.
Prayer
Father, I have looked at everything that has been taken from me and I have blamed You for most of it.
I understand now that You did not send it. Something had a legal right to be in my life, and I am the one who granted it.
Show me every right I have handed over. I want them all revoked. Not one door left open.
And Jesus, You said You came so I could have life in abundance. That is what I am asking for. In Your name. Amen.
Stop fighting the thief. Cancel his authorization.
