Cursed Before You Ever Arrived
"Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." — 1 John 4:4
The Veterans Who Understood
During a seminar on breaking curses, a group of Christian veterans raised something that had never occurred to the teachers.
They pointed out a grim statistic from their war: that in the years since it ended, more veterans had died by suicide than had been killed in action. Something about that conflict was distinct. An extraordinary proportion of those who came home returned carrying a powerful inclination toward self-destruction.
Then they explained what they had seen with their own eyes.
As every plane landed on the airstrips, bringing more troops into the country, groups of monks stood at the end of the runways performing incantations — placing curses of destruction on each arriving soldier.
Every veteran asked about it afterward remembered the monks. Every one.
The statistics testify to how effective those curses were.
Cursed Without Consent
This is the category this lesson addresses: a curse placed on you before you had any say in the matter.
You did nothing. You agreed to nothing. You went where you were sent, or you were born where you were born, or you arrived somewhere as a child, and something was directed at you on arrival.
This happens in more circumstances than war:
Being born into a family or community where such things are practiced. Arriving as a child in a place where a ritual was performed over newcomers. Entering an institution — a school, an orphanage, a facility — where something was done over the residents. Being present at an event where a mass curse was pronounced. Being targeted as part of a group rather than as an individual.
The Good News in This Category
Recall the three kinds of curses. This one falls squarely into the third — a curse sent without any legal right.
You gave no ground, because you had no opportunity to give any. Which means there is nothing to repent of and nothing to confess.
You simply take authority and break it.
That is the whole procedure. It is short precisely because the enemy's claim here is empty.
Say It Out Loud
"In the name of Jesus Christ, I take authority over every curse placed on me at ______, and I command it broken now. I command every spirit associated with those curses to leave my life forever, in the name of Jesus. Lord, heal every damage that has been done and restore what has been taken."
And if you are a veteran, or you know one: tell them. Tell your friends who served. Many are carrying something they have never once thought to break, and the breaking takes two minutes.
Point to Ponder
A curse you had no part in granting has no ground to stand on. Take authority and end it.
Verse to Remember
"You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." — 1 John 4:4
Question to Consider
Where have I been — as a soldier, a child, a patient, a student, a newcomer — where something may have been directed at everyone who arrived?
Today's Practice
Make a list of every situation where something might have been pronounced over you as part of a group rather than as an individual.
Military service, particularly deployment. Institutions you lived in as a child. Schools with religious practices not your own. Places you were taken before you were old enough to refuse. Communities you entered as an outsider. Ceremonies performed over arrivals.
Then break them all in one prayer, thoroughly:
"In the name of Jesus Christ, I take authority over every curse ever placed on me — in any place, by any person, at any time, whether I knew of it or not, and whether I consented or not. I command every one of them broken now. I command every spirit associated with them to leave my life and my family forever."
Then ask the Lord to heal what those years cost you — the self-destructive pull, the depression, the anger, the habits you have fought and never understood.
And then go tell someone else who needs to hear it.
Prayer
Father, I have carried things I never chose. Some of it was placed on me before I was old enough to refuse, and some while I was doing what I was told to do.
In the name of Jesus Christ I take authority over every curse ever pronounced over me — by anyone, anywhere, for any reason. I command every one broken now. I command every spirit associated with them to leave my life and my family forever and never return.
Lord, heal what those curses have done. Take away the pull toward self-destruction. Heal the depression, the rage, the nightmares, and the heaviness I have never been able to explain.
Restore the years, Father. And let me tell someone else what I have learned, so they can be free too.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
Many are carrying something they have never once thought to break. The breaking takes two minutes.
