Laws You Cannot See
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made." — Romans 1:20
The World You Already Trust
You live your entire life inside laws you cannot see.
You have never seen gravity. You have only seen what it does. You have never observed the molecular behavior that turns water into ice at a certain temperature, but you plan your winter around it. You do not argue with fire when it turns wood to ash. You do not take a vote on it. You arrange your life around laws you did not create, cannot amend, and mostly cannot perceive.
Nobody calls that superstition. We call it maturity. A person who understands physical law lives more safely and more effectively than a person who does not.
Here is the point almost everyone misses: the laws that govern your physical world cannot solve your deepest problems.
Gravity will not repair a marriage. Thermodynamics has nothing to say about your depression. Chemistry can suppress a symptom but has never once removed bitterness from a human heart. The realm where your worst suffering actually lives is not the realm where physical law operates.
A Second Set of Laws
So consider the possibility that just as physical laws govern the physical world, there is a set of spiritual laws governing the personal, relational, mental, and spiritual challenges we most desperately want out from under.
If that is true, several things follow immediately.
It means many of your struggles have roots you have never inspected — not because you were careless, but because you were looking in the only place you knew to look.
It means the reason certain problems never resolve is not that you have not tried hard enough. It is that you have been applying physical solutions to a spiritual mechanism. You can pour concrete over a spring all day; the water will still come up somewhere.
And it means there is genuine hope. A law you can learn is a law you can work with.
Where the Laws Are Written
If spiritual laws exist, they must be recorded somewhere. Human beings did not derive gravity by intuition; someone had to observe, test, and write it down.
Many ancient texts across many cultures attempt to describe spiritual reality. Among them, one has proven remarkably precise and remarkably reliable when its principles are actually applied — the Bible. Not as a cultural artifact. Not as religious decoration. As a working description of how the unseen realm operates.
That is the source these lessons will draw from. Not because of tradition, but because when people take what it says about sin, discipline, repentance, and freedom, and actually do it, things change. Consistently. Measurably. Sometimes within hours.
You are permitted to test that. In fact you should.
Point to Ponder
You would never blame the electricity for a fault in your wiring. Do not blame God for a law you were never taught.
Verse to Remember
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made." — Romans 1:20
Question to Consider
Which of my long-standing problems have I only ever tried to solve with physical means — medicine, money, effort, distance, willpower?
Today's Practice
Take the list you made yesterday. Beside each item, write down every solution you have already attempted.
Doctors. Prescriptions. Counseling. Programs. Books. Moving. Leaving. Trying harder. Waiting it out.
Now mark which of those attempts were physical or psychological in nature. For most people, that will be nearly all of them.
This is not to insult those efforts — many of them are good and some were necessary. It is to show you honestly how much of one realm you have exhausted, and how little of the other you have explored.
Prayer
Father, You made a world I can see and a world I cannot. I have spent my life working with the first one and knowing almost nothing about the second.
I confess I have tried to fix spiritual problems with physical tools, and then felt abandoned when they did not work. Forgive me for the conclusions I drew about You in those moments.
Teach me Your laws. Not so I can control You, but so I can stop fighting the wrong battle with the wrong weapons. Give me the humility to be a beginner. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
The realm you cannot see is governing the problems you cannot solve.
