Day 3: The Authority You Have Not Used
"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." — Luke 10:19
Someone Has to Do It
Many sincere believers hold a quiet assumption: If there is a curse on my life, surely God will take care of it. He knows. He loves me. He'll handle it.
It sounds like faith. It is actually abdication.
Jesus did not say, "I will trample the serpents for you." He said, "I give you the authority to trample." He did not say, "I will cast out the demons." He said, "In My name they will cast out demons" (Mark 16:17). Paul did not say God would cleanse us; he wrote, "let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit" (2 Corinthians 7:1).
With authority comes responsibility. A king who will not act against thieves in his own land is a king in title only. Christ delegated real power to real people for real use — and He expects it to be used.
If a curse is operating against your life, it is your responsibility to break it. Not your pastor's. Not a specialist's. Yours, in the name of Jesus.

Three Kinds of Curses
Not all curses are the same, and they are not all broken the same way. It matters enormously which kind you are dealing with.
First: curses from God. These are not sent to destroy but to arrest. Their purpose is to get a person's attention, turn him from evil, and purify his life. God's curses are corrective before they are destructive. But if a person will not respond, the outcome is eventually ruin.
Second: curses from the enemy where he has a legal right. These come because sin — ours or our forefathers' — has handed him a legitimate claim.
Third: curses from the enemy where he has no legal right at all. He sends these anyway. Malice does not wait for permission.
The first two cannot be broken until the underlying sin has been repented of. The legal ground must go first, or the curse simply reattaches. The third kind can be broken immediately, in the name of Jesus, with nothing else required.
Understanding this distinction explains one of the most common frustrations in Christian life: "I commanded it to be broken and nothing happened." Very often nothing happened because the door was still open.
How to Break a Curse from God
If the Holy Spirit shows you that what you are experiencing is the corrective hand of God:
1. Acknowledge the sin — yours and your forefathers'. Confess it to God specifically. Repent. Ask for forgiveness and cleansing. Then separate yourself from that sin and from the things that displease Him. Change your life. Repentance that alters nothing is not repentance.
2. Ask God to remove the curse He has placed on your life. He is not reluctant. He was after your heart the whole time, and now He has it.
3. Command any demons that entered through those sins to leave you at once, in the name of Jesus.
How to Break a Curse Where the Enemy Has Legal Right
1. Confess and name the sin that gave him the right. Repent and ask God for forgiveness and cleansing. This is the step most often skipped, and skipping it is why so many attempts fail.
2. Speaking out loud, take authority over the curse in the name of Jesus Christ and command it broken. For example: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I take authority over this curse of ______, and I command it to be broken now!"
3. Command every demon spirit associated with that curse to leave immediately. For example: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I command all demon spirits associated with this curse to leave me now!"
How to Break a Curse Sent Without Right
1. Speaking out loud, take authority over the curse in Jesus' name and command it broken.
2. Command all demons associated with it to leave you immediately.
That is all. No repentance is required for a sin you did not commit. These curses are the easiest to break — and the hardest to notice, which is why they succeed so often.
Why Out Loud?
Notice that in each case the command is spoken aloud.
Demons are not omniscient and they do not read your mind. Authority is exercised by declaration. Jesus spoke to storms, to fevers, to fig trees, to demons. "Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, 'Peace, be still!'" (Mark 4:39). The word was spoken.
Something else happens when you speak: you find out what is fighting you.
There is a well-documented pattern among believers attempting this for the first time. Christian leaders — strong, intelligent, articulate people — have sat down to renounce dedications and break curses and suddenly found they could not do it. Their minds went blank mid-sentence. Their tongues twisted. They stuttered over simple words. Men who had quoted whole paragraphs from memory minutes earlier could not repeat one short sentence renouncing a curse in the name of Jesus.
The battlefield is the mind. "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God" (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).
If that happens to you, do not conclude that you are imagining things or that it isn't working. Conclude the opposite. Interference is evidence. Bind the interfering spirits in the name of Jesus, take it one sentence at a time, and repeat each statement until you can say it freely and clearly. When the words come easily, the resistance has broken.
Do Not Confuse Authority With Presumption
One warning before you begin, because it will matter more on Day 8.
The authority Jesus gave is genuine and it is enormous. But it is delegated authority, exercised under a Commander. "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do" (John 5:19). If that was true of Jesus, it is certainly true of us.
You have full authority to break what is attacking you and your household. You do not have a blanket authorization to march into any battle that catches your interest. Israel learned that at Hormah, when they presumed to go up and fight without God's word and were driven back (Numbers 14:44-45).
Authority used under orders is unstoppable. Authority used on impulse gets people hurt.
Point to Ponder
Jesus did not promise to fight your battles instead of you — He armed you and expects you to stand.

Question to Consider
Have I been waiting on God to remove something He has already given me the authority to break?
Today's Practice
Take the page you began on Day 1 and the confessions you made on Day 2.
Now say the words out loud. Choose one specific thing — the clearest one — and walk the steps in order:
"Father, I confess ______ as sin. I repent of it. I ask You to forgive me and cleanse me by the blood of Jesus Christ, and to remove any curse that has come on my life through it."
Then, aloud: "In the name of Jesus Christ, I take authority over the curse of ______, and I command it to be broken now. In the name of Jesus Christ, I command every demon spirit associated with this curse to leave me at once and never return."
Pay attention to what happens as you speak. Confusion, sudden fatigue, a blank mind, a twisted tongue, a wave of this is ridiculous — note it, and press through. Say it again. And again, until it comes out clean.
Finish by thanking God out loud for the finished work of the cross.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that You did not leave me defenseless. You went to the cross and became a curse for me so that I would never have to live under one. Then You put Your own authority into my hands and told me to use it.
Forgive me for the years I have waited passively for You to do what You commanded me to do. Forgive me for treating Your authority as a doctrine to admire rather than a weapon to wield.
Teach me to speak in faith and not in fear. Teach me to submit to You fully, so that when I resist the enemy he has no choice but to flee. And keep me humble — let me never step into a battle You have not assigned me.
I take my place today as Your servant, under Your orders, in Your name. Amen.
Day 3 of 12 — The authority is already yours. It only works when it is used.
